Ten Tiny Dances®
Both of Us
This piece is meant to be a representation of what it’s like to be enmeshed with another person, losing one’s individuality or sense of self but trying to sustain the relationship anyway.
Leah pursued dance at The University of Akron, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts with a Business Cognate in 2015. Leah moved to Columbus, Ohio in 2017 and is a founding member of Cultivate Dance Project. She is the Assistant Rehearsal Director and has performed with the company in their own showcases at Columbus Dance Theater, as well as Cleveland Dance Festival, Dancing in Summer: The Festival, City Dance Showcase, New Albany Dance Festival, Ten Tiny Dances, Columbus Dance Alliance’s Works #2, Columbus Arts Festival, and Save the Arts Showcase. She also performed a piece choreographed by Macy Perry in Koresh Artist Showcase in Philadelphia, PA. Leah choreographed pieces for Pillow Forts and Wild Geese, two shows curated by Impermanent Gallery. Leah formerly taught youth and adult classes at Artisan Dance Studio and is now teaching an open level contemporary class for adults at Flux Flow Dance Center. She has every intention to continue teaching, choreographing, and dancing for as long as she can. Much of Leah’s inspiration for her teaching methods and her choreographic works stems from her own lived experiences and the experiences she has with others.
Destiny
Destiny is about learning to “trust the process” and lose control. When we are able to take a step back, we are truly able to see the beauty that is unfolding in our lives, and how if it’s “meant to be” it will happen – naturally.
Macy Perry is a freelance dance artist with her BFA in dance from Wright State University. She is currently dancing with Inpulse Dance Company where she had the opportunity to set original work on the company. She will be joining Dayton Dance Initiative for her second season as a dancer/choreographer. She has shared her choreography at festivals throughout Ohio and Pennsylvania, and recently dove into the musical theatre world when she choreographed Amelie for Sinclair College. Macy was a second company member with Dayton Contemporary Dance Company for their 2024-2025 season. She was an apprentice for CPR Dance: Inhale Movement where she performed in various locations across Michigan. Macy’s choreographic work has been performed alongside notable choreographers such as: Ray Mercer, Jennifer Sydor, and Gina Walther. Macy is also a 200 hour certified yoga instructor through Eternal Yoga and enjoys sharing her practice with others.

Renee Clippinger has been dancing since the age of three, starting her training at Midwest School of Ballet in Amherst, Ohio where her choreographic journey began at 14. Renee is a graduate of The University of Akron, earning her Bachelor of Arts in Dance with a business cognate and her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. Her work has been presented at Cleveland Dance Fest, Cleveland Dance Project’s Community Collaborative Show, Summit Artspace, Akron Soul Train, and the American College Dance Association Conference. She currently works as a freelance choreographer and teacher while pursuing her PhD in Psychology focusing on movement research.
Garbage
“Garbage” is a contemporary dance work that reflects on the fractured political and social landscape of our time. It explores the accumulation of what we discard—not only physical waste, but also fear, anger, misinformation, and the divisions that settle into our communities and ourselves. The work asks what remains when we are buried beneath the weight of these collective remnants, and what it means to sift through the wreckage. “Garbage” challenges the impulse to see ruin as an ending. Even in a world that can feel hopeless and divided, there is still beauty to be found among what has been thrown away. Within the discarded lies the possibility of transformation; within decay, the seeds of creation. The piece suggests that our failures, fractures, and forgotten things need not define us, but can instead become the ground from which understanding, compassion, and change emerge. Rather than turning away from the mess, Garbage invites audiences to look closer—to recognize that healing begins not by erasing what has been broken, but by learning from it. In the ruins of what once was, new ways of moving, connecting, and imagining the future become possible.
Jess Gould is a local contemporary jazz dancer. She graduated from Capital University in 2024 with a bachelor’s degree in English and now teaches jazz at BalletMet’s academy program. She has been a member of New Vision Dance Company going on five seasons. She can also be seen performing in musicals around Central Ohio. Most recently, she was in Pickerington Community Theatre’s Something Rotten and featured in Lancaster Playhouse’s Gypsy as Electra.
An Insight of Nothingness
This piece is an excerpt from a longer work that I will be adapting into this 4×4 space. The idea that I am exploring is the progression of the feeling of nothingness and how that can affect how you live your daily life.
Alyssa Chelton is a dance artist originating from Columbus, Ohio, currently based in both Ohio and New York. She graduated with a BFA in Dance from Hofstra University in 2026. At Hofstra, she has performed works by Fredrick Earl Mosley, Seán Curran, William Isaac, Christina Lynch Markham, Adam Barruch, Curt Haworth, Maiya Redding, Rachel List, Robin Becker, Larry Keigwin, Heather Waldon, and Ori Flomin, along with many student works. She has also had the opportunity to train with renowned artists including David Dorfman, Shannon Gillen, Jason Cianciulli, Sara Colomino, Sharon Eyal, Emilie Leriche, Bruno Guillore, Noa Zuk, Ana Maria Lucaciu, Andrea Costanzo Martini, and Eyal Dadon. Alyssa’s work is explorative and physically driven, using the body to translate internal strain into something tangible for an audience.
Everybody Loves a Winner
This piece is about wanting to be great and loved, but all of the traps that come from the pursuit of perfection. Forgetting in the first place why you loved something creates an everlasting doubt that can sometimes become too loud. You get lost from your path and passions and descend into madness. That chaos is something that can only end with time and clarity, if it isn’t too late.
Sam Minneman graduated with a double major in dance and psychology at Wright State University. Sam started her career as a company member of Gem City Ballet and has created numerous works at Wright State University for their Emerging Choreographers and Fall concerts. This past summer, Sam created a full length piece at Regional Dance America’s, National Choreography Intensive as a Project Tier Choreographer. She also created works for multiple festivals including Alley Islands and Dance at the Market. Sam continues to cultivate her passion for art and choreography while being a member of Psi Chi, the International Honor Society of Psychology. She also cultivates skills in different mediums including directing short films, poetry, and exploring comedy as Slam the clown. As an artist, Sam makes it her mission to connect by shared emotions shown through story-telling.
American Vogue
This piece has excerpts from Vogue’s Grace Coddington’s memoir. Within these four walls we dissected what is expected of women. The impossible standards that they are held to and the ear worm of whispers constantly bashing around their heads, especially young women. The wiggling of the words in the brain can drive any woman to madness.
I’ve been dancing since I was three years old, and l’ve always been drawn to the strange and usual. I love exploring the endless possibilities of movement and discovering all the oddities I can crate within a piece. As a choreographer, I enjoy pushing creative boundaries and creating work that is expressive, unconventional, and authentic.
Three Hours Radius
Three Hour Radius is a contemporary solo exploring the invisible emotional compression of the postpartum experience during the first year of motherhood. Created specifically for the confined 4×4-foot stage of Ten Tiny Dances®, the work transforms the tiny performance space into both a physical and psychological landscape. The choreography draws from the repetitive cycles of postpartum life, where time becomes measured in three-hour intervals of feeding, soothing, waiting, and surviving. A mother’s world gradually contracts into a limited emotional and physical radius — never fully able to move beyond the distance required to return again. Drawing inspiration from my personal experience as a new mother of twins, the piece expands beyond personal confession to reflect a shared emotional reality many mothers quietly endure: isolation, exhaustion, loss of personal freedom, emotional invisibility, and suppressed rage existing alongside deep care and devotion.
Tingyu Xie is a Chinese-born choreographer, performer, and educator based in Columbus, Ohio. She is the founder and artistic director of TINGMOTION, where she creates contemporary dance works informed by Chinese aesthetics, somatic practices, and lived experience. Her choreography investigates memory, identity, cultural inheritance, and the relationship between the body and its environment. Tingyu holds an MFA in Dance from Case Western Reserve University. Her work has been presented in OhioDance Festival, Kentucky Dance Festival, Dancing in Summer 2026 in Michigan, and ROOTS Choreography Showcase, and other galleries and community performance, often combining personal narratives with broader social and emotional themes. *Three Hour Radius* reflects her recent artistic inquiry into motherhood, confinement, and the invisible emotional landscapes of postpartum life.
4 Women
4 Women is a contemporary dance piece exploring the invisible layers women carry within themselves and for others. Through movement, physical connection, and the constant act of dressing, undressing, and transforming, four dancers navigate identity, expectation, strength, softness, and exhaustion. Oversized sweaters become symbols of roles, protection, pressure, and shared experience. The piece does not seek to make a direct statement, but rather to embody the quiet resilience, complexity, and individuality of women through an abstract and emotional physical language.
Cultivate Dance Project is a contemporary, project-based profession dance company based out of Columbus, OH. Founded in fall of 2018, CDP dancers and choreographers have collaborated to create work that has been featured in Cleveland Dance Fest, New Albany Dance Festival, Columbus Dance Alliance’s Works #2, Columbus Arts Festival, and City Dance Showcase. CDP is a company built for and by dancers that emphasizes the collaborative process, building a sense of community, and allowing its members to explore their athleticism and artistic passions.
